ATLANTA — Police say they are amazed no one was seriously wounded when two teens began firing at a car in a gas station parking lot.
The shooting was caught on video surveillance.
Channel 2s Tom Jones showed residents the video and they were shocked.
"Oh my goodness," Reonne Montgomery said.
Jonesboro Police say the video shows 15 and 16 boys shooting at a man they were trying to rob of his marijuana.
"It was a drug deal gone bad," Police Chief Franklin Allen said.
It happened at a Citgo gas station on S. McDonough Street Thursday night.
"Oh I don't feel safe. I live right behind here. I'm scared though," Montgomery said.
The video shows innocent bystanders with a small child running from the gunfire. One of them fell and the others helped them up in an effort to get them to safety.
Chief Allen says the teens arrived at the gas station with 23-year-old Shwanna Adams and 29-year-old Roy Mattox.
He thinks they had the teens do the shooting for a reason.
"It could be the two adults were using the juveniles to do their dirty work because they know if they ever get caught the sentences are going to be lighter," he said.
The video shows the 16-year-old boy getting out of the van with the drug dealer. Allen says the drug dealer became suspicious and drove off.
The 16-year-old got out and opened fire on the van. That's when officers say the 15-year-old boy sees what going on and starts shooting at the van.
The drug dealer got away and wasn't hurt. The teens, Adams and Mattox were caught nearby.
Police say they tossed out three guns and a third was found in their car. Police say they also found marijuana, scales and baggies in the car.
"We've got four people in jail and we recovered four weapons and got some drugs off the street. So all in all I'd say that's a good night," Allen said.
People who live in the area can't believe boys that age could be so dangerous. "It's scary. It's like where are their parents at. You know. what are they doing with guns," Montgomery said.
The teens are in juvenile custody.
Mattox and Adams face drug and weapons charges, in addition to contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
