ATHENS, Ga. — Police are searching for the driver who is accused of hitting and killing a man in Athens.
Athens-Clarke County responded to reports of a pedestrian down on the sidewalk on Dec. 22 just before 4 p.m.
The officers arrived at North Avenue just south of Strickland Avenue and found the victim. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the man was walking northbound on the sidewalk when a car exited the roadway, striking the victim. The driver did not stop but instead continued driving and left the scene, according to police.
Athens-Clarke County police were able to identify the driver as Amanda Gerrett, 31, of Athens, Georgia.

Warrants have been taken out for Gerrett on the charges of first-degree vehicular homicide, felony hit-and-run and failure to maintain lane.
Police are still searching for Gerrett and urge anyone with information about her whereabouts to contact law enforcement by dialing 911.
