City forces residents to move out of trailer park

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Dozens of Sugar Hill residents are homeless after their mobile home park was sold and they were given 60 days to leave. City officials teamed up with a developer to build a high-rise apartment building on the land.

America Delangel lived in the mobile park for 10 years, more than half her life. Now, she's locked out of her home.

Many had to leave their property because they had nowhere to put it. Dozens of people say they had to live on the street or live with family members who barely have any space for them.

Residents are wondering why they didn't have more time to move their furniture.

"I got my two kids and my wife living in the same room," said Jonah Solis.

Solis says he heard the city was buying the land, but he says city officials he spoke to denied it.

Channel 2's Tyisha Fernandes found documents that say a company called Prime Interest bought the land, but the city of Sugar Hill bought it from that company.

"Finally the truth is going to come out and they're going to know they can't throw us away, ya know?" said Solis.

Taylor Anderson, with the city, says there are plenty of options for people who have been displaced by this process.

Construction for the new high-rise building will start the summer of 2016.
