Chipotle offers free burritos after closing restaurants nationally

Chipotle has been under fire of late for several recent e.coli outbreaks, but it’s trying to make it up to customers.

Monday, the chain live tweeted its company meeting in a bid to be more transparent, though that decision meant more than 2,000 of the store's restaurants were closed from until 3 p.m.

To make up for the closures and all the recent food poisoning drama, the chain is giving customers the opportunity to snag a free burrito by texting the word “raincheck” to 888-222 (if you think it’s a scam to get your personal information, don’t worry too much — all they ask you for in exchange is your name and zip code) until 6 p.m. today.

You’ll get a text message back for a free burrito within the next few days.

If the move wins back the hearts — and stomachs — of customers remains to be seen, but we’ve never met a freebie we didn’t like.
