CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — A Canton family’s home was destroyed after a fire burned it to the ground on Wednesday, in Glen Echol Falls. The family was inside the home and they barely made it out alive.

Cellphone videos show how intense the fire was inside Danielle Adams’ house.

Her Canton home caught on fire on Wednesday morning with her family inside, “We know it started in the basement,” said Adams.

The family said the home is destroyed, with most of the damage at the top of the roof. Adams tells Channel 2′s Larry Spruill, that her son is the hero in all of this.

“My son woke up to (a) window shattering. This is my son and he woke up. He woke the entire family up. By the time he got upstairs, the whole house was engulfed in flames,” said Adams.

The fire is the second tragedy the family has faced in just a few weeks. Adams lost her 7-month-old granddaughter Gracie just five weeks ago.

Gracie’s father talked to Channel 2′s Larry Spruill about that heartache. “We just lost our 7-month-old daughter. She was a heart defect baby. Literally five weeks ago, we just lost her and thought we lost everything and now, we really have lost everything,” said William Donovan.

Danielle and her daughter got matching tattoos in her honor, “When we lost Gracie, our going through the struggle with Gracie, our family motto is ‘give grace,’” said Adams.

But Adams said it’s the grace shown by her community that’s helped them in these tough days, “Our neighbors and this neighborhood have reached out and have been collecting (donations). They’re with us through this fire.”

Although their home is destroyed, Adams said in the midst of this turmoil, they’re still alive and that’s a blessing.
