CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — A former Cherokee County school resource officer charged with the hot-car death of his K-9 is out of jail on bond, and has been ordered to stay away from other animals.
Daniel Peabody made his first court appearance Thursday afternoon to hear the felony charges against him. He's accused of leaving his K-9 Inka in the back of a patrol car in the hot sun for nearly three hours. The dog died of heat stroke. Peabody resigned from the school district last week.

Peabody is also accused of making false statements to investigators about the death of another dog, a retired school K-9 named Dale. Investigators said Peabody claimed Dale choked to death on a chew toy at his former home in Paulding County. But investigators contend Peabody shot the dog to death shortly after it was retired from service.
Channel 2 Action News went by Peabody’s former home in Dallas, but no one there wanted to make a comment.
The judge granted Peabody a $22,400 bond and put special conditions on that bond: He is to have no contact with potential witnesses, firearms or animals of any kind.
