CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Lots of people love to visit a corn maze this time of year especially with the beautiful fall weather.
A Cherokee County decided this Halloween to bring some fun to his neighborhood but with a twist: It’s not a corn maze, but a lawn maze instead.
“You gotta do a little planning. I’ll admit I’m an engineer by trade," Bryan Blackmon told Channel 2′s Berndt Petersen.
Those engineering skills come in handy when one is creating a lawn maze. Blackmon has been cutting designs into his yard the last few Halloweens.
But he told Channel 2′s Berndt Petersen this maze is his masterpiece and it has become a hit in the neighborhood.
“We love it. The girls look forward to it every year, and this year my nephew has gotten to go on it," neighbor Tracy Palmquist said.
While it’s not giant like a corn maze, the lawn maze still presents a challenge. Just ask the kids in the neighborhood.
“Well, you gotta know if you’re on the right track---because it can stop you and turn you the other way," kindergartener Daniel Bishop said. “You gotta look at what’s ahead of you."
“Did you find a way out?” Petersen asked.
“Uh-huh,” Bishop replied.
The maze took Blackmon one evening to draw up the sketch and about three to four hours pushing the mower around. Blackmon is glad to see how much of a hit the maze has been.
“It makes me feel really good. That’s what it’s about. We don’t have kids at home anymore. But it’s creating something fun for the neighbors and in particular the kids."
As for future Halloweens, Blackmon said he may move up one day to an actual corn maze.
“I don’t know. I’ll have to check the neighborhood covenants and make sure we can have gardens in the front yard."
