WHITE COUNTY, Ga. — Firefighters and the U.S. Forest Service have contained at least 50% of a wildfire that has spread in the Chattahoochee National Forest.
The wildfire started Saturday off Highway 356 northeast of Unicoi State Park.

As of Monday, officials said the fire has burned more than 184 acres. White County Public Safety department said the fire is staying inside the fire breaks at this time.
“Crews worked throughout the night and made good progress on containment lines. Today the focus of efforts is improving and holding the lines,” the U.S. Forest Service said.

There are currently no road closures or evacuation warnings in place, but Smith Creek Trail is closed for hiker safety. A burn ban is also in effect for White County.
Crews dealt with low humidity and high wind conditions Monday, but they are expecting more favorable conditions on Tuesday.
