Carroll Co. elementary school evacuated after gas leak

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — The fire department evacuated a Carroll County Elementary school Wednesday morning because of a gas leak.

Crews were working on the new softball field behind the elementary school when they noticed the smell of gas around 11 a.m.

Officials say 750 kids were removed from Mt. Zion Elementary School and taken to Mt. Zion High School. The two school campuses are next door to each other.

There were no injuries and messages were sent to all parents.

If parents choose to, the school system says they can pick their children up in the front office of Mt. Zion High School.

Bus schedules will remain the same.

The school says it is waiting on crews to arrive to fix the gas leak.
