GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Five Brookwood High School students are facing felony juvenile charges for a prank police said involved an officer and could have caused injuries.

Police say the teenagers put duct tape across a part of Ronald Reagan Parkway Monday night.

"They do it for the sound of it. It would mimic a flat tire when you roll over the duct tape," Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter said.

At about 9:30 p.m., police said an officer came across the duct tape and slowed down to see what was in the road.

A police report obtained by Channel 2 Action News shows three felony charges including terroristic threats and aggravated assault for when one teen threw a log at the patrol car, damaging the hood and headlight, according to police.

“The charge under the circumstances is valid in terms of what happened. Anytime you throw any kind of an object at a vehicle you can be charged with (making) terroristic threats,” Porter said.

Porter said he is still gathering facts on the case, including learning the history of the Brookwood High School students.

“In hindsight, these kids realize the potential for dire consequences,” the attorney for two of the students, Matt Crosby, said.

Crosby says his clients have recognized how fortunate everyone involved is that the situation was not worse.

“My assessment of the case is that it is more of reckless conduct,” he said. “They acted in a reckless disregard for the consequences. That is a misdemeanor offense.”
