Braves go with Ray Kerr in Game 2; Chris Sale to start Game 3

The Atlanta Braves have decided who will start in Game 2 of the National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday.

It won’t be Chris Sale. The Braves are giving the starting nod once again to Ray Kerr. The left-handed reliever threw three scoreless innings in Thursday night’s Wild Card series win.

Channel 2’s Luke Hetrick has been reporting in Los Angeles all weekend. He heard from Braves manager Walt Weiss during his pre-game news conference on Sunday.

Weiss confirmed that Chris Sale will start Game 3 in Atlanta on Tuesday. Sale also pitched in Thursday’s night Wild Card series win, much to the surprise of Braves country. He even picked up the save.

Sale wanted to start Sunday despite the few days rest. That’s what he told Weiss before his Thursday appearance, too.

But the Braves manager says he wants Sale at full strength for Tuesday. He added that he doesn’t regret letting Sale pitch in the Game 3 win over the Phillies last week.

Weiss says he has full confidence in Kerr and that they will take it inning-by-inning to see how long he stays in.

Kerr’s story has been one of inspiration. Once working at a 7/11 and movie theater, he wasn’t sure if his dreams of playing professional baseball would work out.

Now, he’s getting another chance to shine on the biggest stage. Game 2 is set for 8:15 p.m.
