Atlanta native and veteran infielder Gordon Beckham has agreed to a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Braves and another $500,000 in incentives, a source told Channel 2's Zach Klein.
The Westminster High School graduate and former University of Georgia standout is hoping to bounce back from a career-worst season. The 29-year-old hit .209 with six homers, a .275 on-base percentage and a .332 slugging percentage in 237 plate appearances for the White Sox last season. It’s the second year in a row that posted career worst offensive statistics, according to the AJC.
Beckham tweeted his excitement Wednesday about coming home to Atlanta.
