CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News has learned that the man accused of leaving a boy in the trunk of his car is also accused of threatening the boy's mother and her kid's days before the incident.
The mother of the 9-year-old boy was in the process of filing a temporary restraining order against him.
That's after she says she received 11 text messages where Charlie Woods, 52, threatened her and her kids.
Channel 2's Tom Jones was in court when Murphy seemed to deny he kidnapped Murphy's son and put him in his trunk in this parking lot.
"By keeping this young person in your trunk, you maliciously caused him mental pain by making him stay in the trunk," Judge Wanda Dallas said.
Woods didn't say a word while Dallas spoke, but he continuously moved his head to indicate that he did not agree with the allegations that he kidnapped his ex-girlfriend's son and put him in the trunk of this car Tuesday.
A mother and her daughter saw the boy cracking open the trunk to get air at the Forest park Department of Driver Services and got him out.
"Thank God. I'm very grateful that I was able to help him," the mother said.
Woods was arrested as police say he tried to speed away.
Jones asked him about the charges as he was led to jail.
"Sir, did you kidnap the child?" Jones asked.
“No I did not,” Woods answered.
"Then how did the child end up in the back of your trunk?" Jones asked.
Jones began digging and found this police report in east point, where the boy and his mother live.
It says on the 17th, days before the alleged kidnapping, Shirley Murphy told officers that Woods had threatened her and her children via text message.
Woods also said he would kill himself if he couldn't 'have' Murphy, according to the report.
All because Murphy broke up with him, and kicked him out of her home.
Department of Driver Services customers say the new details are troubling.
"I'm thinking he had to have some type of plan for this child, and it's horrible to say what type of plan it is," customer Ceesay said
The boy's mother also said Woods said her day was coming.
Woods was ordered held without bond.
The judge told him the charges against him will most likely be upgraded.
