COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Shoppers lined up for the first Black Friday store opening Thursday at 6 a.m.

Kmart was the first retailer to open its doors with Black Friday deals and dozens of shoppers quickly filed inside.

People began lining up outside the Kmart in Cobb County around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

When the doors opened, many shoppers headed straight for the electronics, purchasing TVs and tablets.

“I don’t want to have to wait with everybody else because the lines are worse than this (Friday) so what better way to get it done early,” shopper Shelbi Morgan told Channel 2’s Darryn Moore.

In DeKalb County, shoppers lined up Wednesday evening outside a Lithonia Best Buy.

“This is our Thanksgiving, no turkey,” said shopper Lashea Johnson. “For me and my husband, it’s more or less a tradition for us. We never do Thanksgiving. Our family knows that.”

Best Buy will open its doors at 5 p.m. Thursday.

While the air outside is cold, many stores are offering hot deals, like a 50-inch TV for $199.

“I’m definitely one that likes to save money so any time I see a flier or any electronics I try and get it while I can,” said shopper Zill Lee.

Many malls across the metro area will open their doors Thursday. Lenox Square and Cumberland Mall open at 6 p.m., Gwinnett Place Mall and the Outlet Shoppes in Cherokee County open at 8 p.m., and Stonecrest Mall opens at midnight.
