The following areas under advisory are:
- South Beach at the Lighthouse: from 9th Street to the Pier on St. Simons Island
- South Beach at Chatham Street: from 18th Street to Inlet Avenue on Tybee Island
The advisory means the health departments does not recommend swimming or wading in the water. The departments said no other beach areas are impacted and the advisory doesn’t mean the beach is closed.
“There is no way of knowing if going into water that is under advisory will result in illness. However, beach water advisories are to alert the public of a possible risk of illness associated with water contact,” according to a release.
Officials also say that fish and seafood caught in the areas should be washed thoroughly with fresh water and cooked before eating.
The advisory will be in effect until tests show that bacteria levels meet the recommended standards.
