CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — A former police officer has been arrested after a Georgia Bureau of Investigation probe into missing money from a police department’s evidence room.

The GBI announced Friday that Donna Jean Kelley, 61, of Cartersville, has been charged with violation of oath, first-degree forgery and felony theft by taking.
According to the GBI, the Cartersville Police Department requested the agency’s assistance on May 27, after money was reported missing from the department’s evidence room.
During the investigation, agents determined Kelley stole money from the evidence room while she was employed by the department as both an officer and evidence custodian, the GBI said.

Kelley was booked into the Bartow County Jail on Sept. 24.
The investigation remains ongoing. Once completed, the case file will be turned over to the Bartow County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
