Woman who escaped mental institute shot while throwing bricks, police say

ATLANTA — Atlanta police are currently searching for the person they say shot a mentally ill woman.

Officers were called to Forsyth St. around midnight to call of a woman being shot.

Investigators have since learned that the victim is a young woman in her 20s or 30s who escaped a mental institution in Gwinnett County.

They say that she was throwing bricks at people in the area of Forsyth St. when an unknown suspect shot her in the leg.

She was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover from her injuries.

Police have not released any details on the suspect.
