ATLANTA — A 26-year-old woman was killed after she was hit by a vehicle on Interstate 85 Saturday morning, according to police.

The incident happened on the southbound side of I-85 near the Georgia 400 interchange.
Authorities say the woman had been involved in a physical fight inside the vehicle while traveling on the interstate. At some point, the vehicle pulled onto the shoulder and several people got out.
According to police, the confrontation continued outside the vehicle before the woman ran into a lane of traffic, where she was hit by an oncoming vehicle.

The woman died at the scene.
Police said the driver of the vehicle that hit her remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
APD’s Accident Investigations Unit responded to determine exactly what happened and whether any charges could be filed.
The woman’s identity has not been released.
