Which Georgia politicians would voters likely support if they ran for president in 2028?

ATLANTA — A new Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll is giving a look at how Georgia voters feel about some of the state’s biggest political names possibly running for president in 2028.

SEN. JON OSSOFF:

The poll found U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff is especially popular among Democrats, with 84% of likely Democratic voters saying they would support him if he ran for president.

Ossoff has said several times he has “zero interest” in running and called the talk “fantasy football,” but the poll shows he still has strong support, especially from younger voters and nearly half of independents. Among all Georgia voters, 44% would back an Ossoff run, while 50% are against it.

SEN. RAPHAEL WARNOCK:

U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock is seen as more likely to consider a presidential campaign.

He has released another book, built up national political connections and campaigned in battleground states.

The poll found 74% of Democratic voters would support Warnock if he ran, though that’s a bit lower than Ossoff’s numbers.

Statewide, 36% of voters would support Warnock, while 54% would not.

Warnock also faces a challenge because he is up for Senate reelection in 2028.

GOV. BRIAN KEMP:

Gov. Brian Kemp is the Republican with the broadest appeal in the poll.

Georgia voters are evenly split on whether they would support Kemp for president, with 47% in favor and 47% opposed.

Kemp remains very popular with Republicans—94% approve of his job as governor and 77% of likely GOP voters would support a presidential run.

The poll also found Kemp’s refusal to support efforts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results has helped him appeal to some voters outside his party.

FORMER REP. MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE:

U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene had the weakest support in the poll. Only 11% of likely Georgia voters said they would support her running for president, while 77% are against it.

Even among Republicans, just 18% would back a Greene presidential bid and 69% would not.

According to the poll, none of the respondents interviewed expressed support for Greene running for president.

The poll suggests Ossoff is the strongest potential 2028 presidential candidate among Georgia Democrats, Kemp is the most competitive Republican, Warnock has solid support but faces more obstacles and Greene faces strong opposition from Georgia voters.

HOW WAS THE POLL CONDUCTED?

The University of Georgia’s School of Public and International Affairs conducted the poll via telephone with 1,000 likely voters from Oct. 7 through Oct. 15.

The likely voters previously voted in the 2022 general election, 2024 general election, 2026 primary election or a combined of those elections. They also indicated they are registered to vote in Georgia and are “definitely or probably” going to vote in the 2026 general election.

The poll margin of error is 3.1 percentage points.
