Trial for Atlanta officer pushed back several months after change of venue request

His attorney filed a late motion asking to move the trial out of Fulton County.

ATLANTA — The trial for Atlanta police officer Garrett Rolfe, who is accused of attacking a bar security guard, will not start as planned.

Rolfe’s attorney filed a late motion asking to move the trial out of Fulton County.

At the same time, the solicitor’s office asked to step aside because of a conflict of interest, so a state prosecutor will now take over the case.

Bar owners at Ten Atlanta, also known as X, said they are glad the trial was postponed. They felt the process was moving too quickly and pointed out that a jury had not even been selected yet.

The Fulton County courtroom was packed with police officers this morning, including Rolfe himself.

This is a case many people have been watching closely. Rolfe is the officer who shot and killed Rayshard Brooks at the southwest Atlanta Wendy’s in June 2020. He later sued the city, received a settlement, and got his job back.

The trial is now expected to start in a few months.
