Detached retina causes rock band to cancel Shaky Knees appearance

ATLANTA — Rock band Jimmy Eat World is canceling a major appearance in Atlanta after their frontman suffered a medical emergency.

Jim Adkins, the lead singer and guitarist, announced the band would be stopping their tour earl.

He said he had noticed a strange “shadow cloud creeping in on my vision” while preparing to play a set at Warped Tour on Sunday in Mexico City.

“With some quick research, I knew I had to seek medical help immediately. After an exam, it was discovered that I had a detached retina and needed surgery asap,” Adkins said in a statement.

The band canceled their performance at Warped Tour, as well as stops at Shaky Knees in Atlanta, where they were expected to play a midnight show on Friday and a 5:30 p.m. set on Saturday.

Adkins said the band also canceled their show during Louder Than Life in Louisville.

“We are disappointed to be missing you,” Adkins said. “Take care of yourselves, listen to your body and we’ll be rocking with you all again soon!”

Shaky Knees said that tickets to the late night show will be refunded automatically to the original method of purchase, but asked that fans allow for a few weeks to have the refunds process.

The festival said an updated performance schedule is coming soon.
