Police said the incident began with a kidnapping Monday night in East Point outside a liquor store.

The victim's son told Channel 2’s Steve Gehlbach that she was jumped, kidnapped and driven around for hours while the suspects called her son and demanded $100,000 for her life.

They arranged a meeting at a gas station on Metropolitan Parkway, police said. When they got close, police spotted the suspects and the victim in the SUV.

"The situation was very fluid. (We were) monitoring it, what was going on at the time, and that's how the officers were able to coordinate their efforts and get there quickly and rescue the victim," Atlanta police Maj. Jeff Glazier said.

The GBI is investigating the use of force in the officer-involved shooting.

They identified the armed suspect who was shot as 23-year-old Terenzio McCurty.

McCurty and John Pencil, 50, were taken into custody a short distance from the crash. Officers administered first aid to McCurty, who was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

Officers found a third suspect, Joshua Fowler, 25, hiding in a dumpster a short distance from the scene. The fourth suspect, Demetrius Sims, 43, was found in the area several hours later and taken into custody, police said.

East Point police are investigating the kidnapping.
