ATLANTA — A woman’s quick stop for coffee turned into a fight with a thief outside a northeast Atlanta gas station.

The victim was on her way to begin her first of two jobs when the attack happened around 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 27 at the BP station on Boulevard NE.

The 55-year-old was sitting inside her car while her son ran in to get coffee when a man approached her, opened her door and then beat her in the face until he got her wallet.

“As soon as my son went to get the coffee for us, that's when someone attacked me,” she said.

Surveillance video shows the man milling around for a moment before yanking the victim’s door open, cursing her out and punching her in the face.

“I wrestled him as long as I could wrestle with him,” she said.

The victim says the few witnesses around didn't bother to help and the attacker got away.

“It still gives me nightmares. Sometimes it still gets to me and when I go to sleep at night I can still see him in my dreams before I have to go to sleep,” she told Channel 2’s Nicole Carr.

The woman and her son visit the gas station almost daily. She said if the man was in need, she would have helped.

Now, she’s warning other women to be careful.

“I just want other women to be aware, to keep their doors locked at all times. Do not trust no one. No one is out there to help you,” she said.

Atlanta police say this is a CrimeStoppers case. If you have any information, call 404-577-8477.
