Police: Man on crack cocaine damages patrol cars

ATLANTA — Atlanta police arrested a man early Monday for breaking windows on seven patrol cars and a police van outside the Atlanta Police Department mini-precinct near Peachtree and Pine streets.

"The person was under the influence of narcotics and we believe it was crack cocaine, and he just went on a binge of destruction," Atlanta Police Sgt. Warren Pickard told Channel 2’s Tom Regan.

Police discovered the vandalism as they arrived for work at 7 a.m. They found the suspect inside the police van.

“The officer was able to get in there and arrest him. This person has arrested been about 18 times. He's a dangerous person, because most of his crimes are violent related crimes," Pickard said.

Police said the suspects also threw a brick through a window of the Custom Signs Today store nearby.
