ATLANTA — A metro Atlanta woman says she was feet away from a truck as it plowed through crowds at a Bastille Day celebration in Nice, France.

Johns Creek resident Lee Jewell says she was sitting outside a restaurant Thursday night when terror struck.

"All of a sudden I heard everyone screaming and running toward us," Jewell said.

A man in a refrigerator truck mowing down scores of people who were celebrating Bastille Day. Officials say 84 people were killed and 52 others were critically injured.

"The truck stopped no more than 100 meters from us and I saw no less than 30 dead bodies in the street. I saw a police officer performing CPR, "Jewell said. "I saw an empty baby stroller."

Organizers of a Bastille Day celebration in Atlanta say they have heavy hearts, but are determined to go on.

"We're going to keep moving on, because that's what you do. You don't get bullied," Nicolette Caldespino said.

A group paraded from Piedmont Park to the Beltline. They say their celebration has a special purpose.

"It breaks my heart, but we're going to raise a little money for the Red Cross and hopefully it lands if not with the people in Nice then somewhere good," Caldespino said.
