ATLANTA — Dealing with the pain hasn’t gotten any easier for Ericka Gibson in the six weeks since her only child, Niani Gibson, was killed in an ATV accident.
“She’s a beautiful person, inside and out,” said Ericka Gibson.
Ericka Gibson says it was the 26-year-old’s first time on one of the off-road vehicles, and she now leaves behind a 4-year-old son.

“I don’t even know what justice would look like because my baby ain’t here, and this baby has to grow up without a mommy,” said Gibson.
Atlanta police have released new video of the ATV driver accused of leaving Niani Gibson to die in the street on May 16.
Police say Niani Gibson was on an ATV with an unidentified man at Metropolitan Parkway and St. John’s Avenue when he hit a car and then drove away with Niani Gibson in the road after being thrown from the ATV. She died a day later.
“But the fact that you chose to leave her on the street, you left someone on the street with their head busted open. What kind of person does that? What kind of person are you?,” her mother told Channel 2′s Matt Johnson.

This new video comes as ATV and dirt bike riders are becoming more active on Atlanta city streets on weekends.
At Monday night’s Public Safety Commission meeting, a deputy chief showed support for a proposal to require off-road vehicles to display identification like a license plate.
“Removing an individual’s [ability] to hide behind who they are or who the vehicle belongs to. Obviously, we have a much better track record of countering activity with cars because we know who the vehicle belongs to,” said Deputy Chief Darin Schierbaum.
Ericka Gibson says every time she sees an off-road vehicle on the street, it brings back painful memories.
Now, she hopes to a part of the solution before more people lose their lives.
“We need to do something about these laws because nobody should have to bury their child,” she said.

Police are continuing to work to identify the man driving the ATV in the crash that killed Niani Gibson.
