SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Has this election stressed you out? The city of East Point has noticed.
The city has hired six jazz bands to play relaxing music for voters when they go to the polls.
Channel 2′s Berndt Petersen talked to one of the 3-piece bands as they played outside a local Methodist Church where people are voting Tuesday afternoon.
The “Al Smith Jam Session” has had thousands of gigs over the last 20-plus years. But never one like this.
“First time ever. Never did it before,” said saxophonist Ron James.
If there ever was anything that could bring Democrats and Republicans together, this has to be it.
“The music, the live atmosphere, it changes the whole attitude of everybody. So there’s nothing like live, great music. On Election Day!” said Lance Robertson from the East Point City Council.
So while this year’s election may be stressing some people out, some smooth jazz goes a long way to create calm.
“It’s good to see people walking from their cars, dancing to the groove, moving to the groove and after they vote, they’re leaving still doing it. So it’s encouraging and inspiring,” said drummer Brien Andrews.
