Man found shot to death inside park identified

ATLANTA — Atlanta police are working to track down suspects and a motive after a man was found shot to death at a southeast Atlanta park.

On Thursday, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 49-year-old Evans Tshongwe.

An officer doing routine patrol in South Bend Park near Lakewood Amphitheater around 9 a.m. Wednesday and came upon a car, parked in an unusual spot, with no one around.

“He proceeded to check the outside areas and found a male, lying down in the field. Upon observing the male, he noticed a large amount of blood. Then he noticed what appeared to be some gunshot wounds in the torso. At that point he alerted homicide, and we reported to the scene,” said Atlanta Police Homicide Commander Lt. Christapher Butler.

Police impounded a Jaguar vehicle as evidence in their criminal investigation. The owner of the vehicle was not disclosed.

People who live in the area, who visit the park, said the deadly shooting is alarming.

“I don’t know. That’s shocking to me. It’s not safe to be living around here anymore. “said neighbor Nicole Hill.

Police say they do not believe that the deadly shooting is a random.

Based on information they’ve gathered, they believe the victim and shooter likely knew each other. Detectives are now reviewing park security camera video in hopes that it will help identify a suspect or suspects.
