FBI trying to figure out who threw gun outside federal building

ATLANTA — Authorities are investigating a gun that was found outside a federal building in Atlanta.

The gun was discovered after 7:30 a.m. Friday near Forsyth Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive Southwest.

Police are searching for a man who was seen throwing it outside the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Building.

Channel 2's Lori Wilson was at the scene when police cordoned off the parking lot where it was found.

Police said the man drove into the building’s parking lot, which is open on the backside, and then tried to exit using the ramp onto Forsyth.

That's when he came upon a chain link fence that was chained and locked. That is where he threw the gun out of the window and then sped up a ramp, fast enough to bust through the gate, and get out.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was at the scene collecting evidence.
