ATLANTA — Deputies seized at least 30 homemade weapons, plus drugs and cell phones at the Fulton County Jail over the weekend.
Early in the shakedown, deputies started finding shanks.
One inmate had a cell phone.
“How much does something like that go for in the jail?” Channel 2′s Mark Winne asked.
“Anywhere from $2,500 to $5,000,” Fulton County Sheriff’s Office Captain Peter Facchini replied.
Facchini said one man tried to toss a cell phone as inmates were lined up for a strip search.
When Facchini was looking at the phone, a Cash App payment notification popped up.
That’s a red flag that the inmate was likely involved in some illicit business.
“So he’s dealing something where he’s receiving money right now,” Facchini said.
Jail staff found pills hidden in the ductwork of a common area.
One cell contained homemade cigarettes, a crack pipe, and several shanks.
