DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County leaders hosted a bridge dedication ceremony in honor of a former sheriff on Thursday.

During the 2023 legislative session, lawmakers passed a resolution to dedicate the bridge on State Route 10 over I-285 in DeKalb County in honor of Thomas E. Brown.

Brown is the longest serving elected sheriff in the county’s history.

He also served as the county’s public safety information officer and fire chief.

“My greatest achievement was integrating females into the fire service when nobody else would do it but the city of Atlanta,” Brown said at the ceremony.

Brown was elected for three terms.

Last year President Biden appointed Brown as U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Georgia.
