ATLANTA — A bridge over I-20 has been renamed in honor of Atlanta icon and baseball legend Hank Aaron on Thursday, in an event hosted by the Morehouse School of Medicine.
Aaron, who passed away in January 2021, undoubtedly left his mark on the city, as was evident on Thursday.
The dedication was to Aaron and his wife, Billye, who have been longtime financial supporters of the Morehouse School of Medicine.

Formerly the Lee Street Bridge, the bridge is located where Lee Street SW crosses over Interstate 20 between Park Street SW and Oak Street SW. Officials also unveiled a mural celebrating Aaron’s life.
Among those who were in attendance included Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, and various other city and art officials.
Aside from his legendary baseball career, Aaron was an Atlanta Braves senior executive, businessman, civil rights advocate, and philanthropist.

After the bridge dedication, a ribbon cutting was held for a brand new Hank Aaron Plaza on the Morehouse School of Medicine Campus.
The plaza features a newly commissioned statue of Aaron located directly outside the Billye Suber Aaron Pavilion.
