Dustin Hillis, Atlanta City Councilmember for District 9, said via social media that an overnight water valve failure has caused a buttress wall to collapse at the Moores Mill Road bridge over Peachtree Creek.

That bridge will remain closed through at least Oct. 26, while an engineering assessment is completed.

“Even if it is reopened or only repaired, this bridge will continue to be a top priority for replacement for Districts 9 and 8, as it is over 100 years old and has had a number of issues over the years,” Hillis said.

The area is no stranger to water main issues. Channel 2 Action News reported on a water main break in the area back in 2012.
