COBB COUNTY, Ga. — When it comes to haircuts, massages and facials, many customers are paying more and going less often.
“Everything from neck strips, conditioner, rubbing alcohol, cleaning spray, disinfectant sprays, everything has gone up,” said Terrell Solomon, barber at ProFRESHional Cuts in Smyrna.
Solomon recalls prices before the pandemic and said inflation has changed everything in the barber industry.

“The price of a haircut has jumped $10 since I got here a little over a year ago,” he said.
Solomon attributed the rising costs of equipment and supplies to barbers charging more.
“Some of the clippers that I got, when I first got here were $80 when I first got them, now they’re $120,” he said. “We couldn’t get what we needed, so the prices went up.”

Alyxandra Ransom with HYA Beauty Studios does lash extensions, eyebrows, facials and full body wax.
She too has had to increase prices because of the effects the pandemic.
“My staff and I are very adamant about providing quality services to our guest, which has forced us to raise our prices, because we don’t want to cut the quality by getting things cheaper,” she said.

Ransom said she used to know how much supplies would cost. Now all of that has changed, especially since she gets her products and supplies from China.
“What would usually cost $20 for shipping, it’s now $60, $70, $80 for shipping, especially our liquid products,” Ransom said.
Meanwhile, workers in the beauty industry are hoping their clients can and will understand and businesses will line back up.
“We’re expecting this upcoming summer to be very busy,” said Solomon.
