2 arrested after Atlanta police find stolen guns, drugs and $14K in cash

ATLANTA — Atlanta police raided a home this week after a two month drug dealing investigation. Inside, authorities said they found drugs, cash and stolen guns.

The department’s APEX unit received a tip in June that drugs were being sold out of a home on Mary George Avenue in northwest Atlanta. Authorities began looking into it and after months of investigation, officers executed a search warrant.

Inside, police said they found two stolen handguns, more than $14,000 in cash and illegal drugs.

The handguns were determined to have been stolen over two years ago. One was stolen in Atlanta and the other was stolen in Sandy Springs.

Police arrested two people in the home:

  • Jeffery Elkin, 37, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
  • Joseph Taylor, 46, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Police said Taylor is a career criminal with multiple previous arrests for burglary, theft from auto, theft by taking and narcotics charges.

Both were taken to the Fulton County Jail.
