ATLANTA — Detectives are investigating a shooting that took the life of a young father of four and injured a 57-year-old man.

Police told Channel 2's Steve Gehlbach there were quite a few people in the parking lot when an argument led to the shooting about 2:45 a.m. on the 2000 block of Bent Creek Way.

Deante Benton, 29, died at the scene. Police originally told Channel 2 Action News Benton was 19-years-old, but his mother told Gehlbach he is actually 29 years old.

“The other victim that got shot, he was supposed to be helping that person,” Charlene Benton said.

Mother Charlene Benton told Gehlbach her son tried breaking up a fight that involved his co-worker.

The 57-year-old was shot in both his legs and rushed to the hospital.
