ATLANTA — Employees in a local school district can expect bonuses and even a raise on their future paychecks.
The Atlanta Board of Education approved a 2% salary increase and one-time bonus for all employees. Full-time employees will receive $1,000 each and part-time staff will receive $500 each.
The $1,000 bonus is part of the bonuses announced by Gov. Brian Kemp, but the district says it wanted to go beyond and provide the part-time staff bonuses too.
“I am thrilled that we are in a position to be able to do this for our employees,” APS Superintendent Dr. Lisa Herring said. “These are a few ways in which this administration and the Atlanta Board of Education want to not just thank our teachers and other staff members for their extraordinary work and dedication, but reward them as well.”

The payments are part of the school’s adjusted 2021-2022 fiscal year budget.
The bonuses will appear on the April 30 paychecks while the raises will start appearing for some employees on May 15 paychecks. The district has a list of who is eligible for the raises here.
The one-time payments are estimated to cost $7.2 million and the raises are estimated to cost $2.8 million.
“Both combined represent an estimated cost of $10 million, of which the district expect about $6.7 million to be funded from the state and $3.3 million to be funded from the district’s general fund budget,” the district said.
APS will also look at raises as part of its 2022 budget, which will be discussed at the next planned meeting April 22. The board is expected to approve budget in June.
