ATLANTA — Residents in a southeast Atlanta apartment complex say they are living in deplorable conditions, and they have not had hot water in more than a month.

“I’m actually boiling water in these two pots to take a bath. This is boric acid because critters are here,” said Sade Chatfield who lives in the Park at Bouldercrest Apartments off Bouldercrest Road.

Chatfield said boiling water has become part of her daily routine.

“It’s hard we have to boil water every day to wash faces in the morning and brush our teeth with boiling water,” said Chatfield.

Chatfield told Channel 2’s Craig Lucie that it’s been tough on her children who are 5 and 10 years old.

“It’s very hard. They are asking me every day, ‘When will we get hot water to take a bath?’ and I don’t have any answers for them,” said Chatfield.

Deon Rachell pointed out water stains in their ceilings and says they have mold.

“The mold smells so bad and it’s coming from downstairs and rising up,” said Rachell.

Residents said trash is also a big issue. Lucie spotted a dumpster that has been overflowing for more than a month.

Chatfield told Lucie that an apartment manager told her that the complex owes more than $16,000 for their water bill.

Lucie went to the leasing office and tried to speak with a manager, but when he approached the door, the manager went into an office and locked the door.

Lucie also called the main number for the leasing office and no one would answer. Residents told him, they just want to get out of their lease.
