“Ain’t it a wonderful day for America,” an excited Wartanna Haywood told Channel 2’s Tom Jones as she pumped regular gas that costs her only $1.14.

Other drivers also were in disbelief.

“It feels like Christmas over here ya’ll. Ya’ll need to get down here.”

It was the greatest gift of all when they got regular gas at prices we haven’t seen this low since the 90s.

“When we were here it was set to $1.54. Then it went down again. Then it went down again. It went more it was $1.44. 1.39,” one driver said

Gas got as low as 97 cents.

Managers at the Amoco and its next door neighbor Sunoco on Marietta Street told Channel 2’s Tom Jones they were in the midst of a gas war.

Amoco said its policy is to set its gas prices 5 cents lower than its neighbor.

“We be like 5 cents lower than you and they don’t want to agree with that so now it’s a war,” an Amoco manager said.

Sunoco said it had to keep matching Amoco’s price.

“How long is this gonna last?” Jones asked. “I don’t know sir. You need to ask them,” a manager responded.

The gas war made a mess of traffic.

“I called my momma, sister, brother,” one driver happily pointed out.

It got so bad Powder Springs police arrived an ordered all drivers in the streets waiting to get into the two gas stations to leave.

“Everybody leave, goodbye,” an officer screamed.

Police blocked entrance to the pumps. Once traffic died down they allowed drivers back inside.

Wartanna Haywood usually pays $90 bucks to fill up her truck. She paid $1.14 a gallon. It only cost her $15 to fill up.

“Yes. Look at God baby. Look at God,” she shouted out.

The gas war eventually ended. And the prices are back up.

Police said the traffic was out of control and that’s why they had to stop cars from getting inside.

They plan to ask the gas stations to coordinate with them if they decide to have a gas war again.
