Boseman filmed parts of “Black Panther” here in metro Atlanta, including locations in Midtown and a DeKalb County studio.

While he was filming, he took a special trip to Cobb County to visit a 9-year-old battling cancer. Ian Hopgood and Boseman maintained a close friendship until Hopgood’s passing in 2018.

“Behind the scenes he continued to stay in contact with Ian, so it never stopped, and it stayed all the way up to the day Ian was gone,” former Cobb County Schools paraprofessional Kendrick Love told Channel 2 anchor Justin Wilfon.

Channel 2′s Audrey Washington also spoke with Atlantans about Boseman’s impact on the Black community.

Rev. James Woodall, the president of the Georgia NAACP, said Boseman inspired so many Black people right here in metro Atlanta.

“Just seeing the way he carried himself through his career with cancer, or not, was just admirable,” Woodall said. “That was the first time in our lifetime that we were able to see such an expression of blackness, of unapologetic identity.”

To fans, Boseman had no limits and real star power that shined.

“It really gave us something that we never had before in film, and that was a Black hero,” Jasmine Clark said.
