5 family members dead in apparent murder-suicide at Georgia home, police say

COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. — Police are investigating the shooting deaths of five people at a home in south Georgia as a murder-suicide.

The City of Douglas Police Department says it received a call around 11:09 p.m. Friday about an active shooter at a home on Robin Lane.

When they arrived, officers found four adults dead inside the home. A fifth adult went to Coffee Regional Medical Center, where that person later died, police said.

“Investigators believe this was an apparent murder-suicide involving immediate family members who reside in the home,” said Douglas Police Chief Brannen Pruette during a news conference on Saturday.

Police are not releasing the victims names at this time. Pruette said one of them made a call from inside the home before they died.

“It’s my understanding the call was placed by the wife, the female victim. She called, and was complaining about the husband who was in the house smoking and she said he was killing her with the smoke,” Pruette said.
