COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Two local families are coming together in an effort to raise awareness for children who have leukemia.
A 4-year-old boy made the decision to shave his head after hearing his best friend would soon lose his hair.
“I'm cutting my hair, because he's my best friend, and I'll never let him down,” Quinn Best told his mom on the way to see the barber.
Best and Ethan Bifulco, 4, are best friends.
Ethan is an active kid, who loves to play soccer and be outdoors. But the Bifulcos' lives were changed forever when doctors told them in November that Ethan has leukemia.
“The first month he was diagnosed was the hardest month. Classmates signed their names and sent him cards letting him know they were thinking about him,” said Kathy Bifulco, his mother.
His father, Ryan Bifulco, explained what they are going through.
“Every three weeks, we have a scheduled hospital stay over at Children’s (Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite). He’s doing chemo so he does a combo of treatments at home and when we go to the hospital,” Ryan Bifulco said.
The chemo treatments would eventually cause Ethan to lose his hair, but he and his friend Quinn decided, “Why wait?”
“They wanted to support Ethan, so we planned to do it together so it was fun for the boys,” said Kathy Bifulco.
“It actually started a trend, because a third little boy decided to buzz his hair short as well,” said Ryan Bifulco.
They are best friends, with an unshakeable bond who both said they’ll never let each other down.
Ethan is participating in a research study to help other children with Leukemia.
