4 nabbed in $13K weave robbery

ATLANTA,None — Atlanta police said four people were caught red-handed stealing $13,000 worth of hair extensions in Buckhead.

The robbery happened at Sandy’s Hair Care Co. on Sidney Marcus Boulevard at about 2:19 a.m. Saturday. Police said robbers smashed out a window to get into the store and steal 93 packages of hair extensions. The owner said they knew exactly what they were doing.

“Seeing their reaction on exactly what to take, they just came in, took and went right out, so they've probably been doing this for a long time,” store owner Jonathan Lee said.

“From the hair shop, it was the extensions, hair extensions. There was a number of them that were taken. From the cigar shop, it was mainly cigarettes, cartons of cigarettes,” Atlanta police Capt. Van Hobbs said.

Police said they also stole 15 cartons of cigarettes from a tobacco shop next door.

He said an off-duty officer working security across the street spotted the robbers and sprang into action. A witness, who asked not to be named, said she saw the scene unfold.

“The officer that was outside the Waffle House came running across the street with his gun drawn,” she said.

Police said the startled robbers drove off in a silver Chrysler Concord but crashed at the intersection of Sidney Marcus and Buford Highway. Four people were arrested, but a fifth robber is still on the loose.

Hobbs said the robbery took place in a well-lit area, which didn’t make sense. The witness agreed.

“That's just crazy because even though it's night, it’s still like broad daylight and you're out here stealing in front of businesses. It's just crazy. I couldn't even tell you what they were thinking,” she said.
