GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett officials have opened the new Diverging Diamond Interchange at the Pleasant Hill Road bridge over Interstate 85.

The DDI at Pleasant Hill Road and I-85 is Gwinnett's first diverging diamond interchange and the second in Georgia. The first was constructed at Ashford-Dunwoody by Perimeter Mall in DeKalb County.

The bridge for Gwinnett's new interchange should be fully open to traffic about noon with the new DDI configuration.

The project involves shifting traffic to the opposite side of the Pleasant Hill Road bridge, which will make left turns onto the interstate easier and improve the flow of traffic across the bridge, officials said.

Funding for this project is provided by the 2009 SPLOST sales tax program, Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District and State Road and Tollway Authority, according to officials.
