3 arrested in FAMU band hazing

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga.,None — Three Florida A & M University students have been arrested over allegations that band hazing that left a DeKalb County graduate hospitalized.

Police said three male band members beat Bria Hunter with their fists and a metal ruler in an initiation ritual. She was left with a broken thigh and blood clots in her legs.

"That morning when I woke up, my leg was numb," Hunter told Channel 2's sister station in Orlando, WFTV, last month. "I was just scared because that never happened before."

Tallahassee police arrested 23-year-old Sean Hobson, 19-year-old Aaron Golson and 22-year-old James Harris in connection with the beating. They are facing hazing and felony battery charges.

Hunter, a FAMU freshmen, was being initiated into the "Red Dawg Order" — a band clique for students who come from Georgia. Channel 2's Sophia Choi went to Southwest DeKalb High School, where students had kind words to say about the former student.

"She was a very nice person. She was good to everyone. She didn't do nothing to nobody," Hunter's friend, Antoinette Foster, said.

Hunter was rushed to the hospital 11 days before another Southwest DeKalb High School alumnus, Robert Champion Jr., died. Police said he was killed in another FAMU hazing incident. He was found unresponsive on a bus after a football championship game.

Police haven't said whether the three arrestees are also accused in Champion's death.
