HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — Police are asking for your help to care for nearly two dozen neglected horses found in metro Atlanta.
Henry County police said they found 22 malnourished and mistreated horses on a property off Kings Mill Road in McDonough last week.
A criminal investigation has been launched and police have secured warrants for three people. Their names and descriptions have not been released at this time.
Henry County Animal Care & Control asks for people to not visit the property and try to feed the horses.
“These horses are under veterinary care and are being fed, per veterinary instruction, a very controlled amount of specific types and amounts of food, three times a day,” the agency said.
However, animal control, Georgia Equine Rescue League and Canine Pet Rescue are accepting donations to help the horses as the organizations care for them. The following items can be donated:
- Nutrena Safechoice Senior horse feed
- Manna Pro Max-E Glow rice bran pellets
- Alfalfa hay bales
- Coastal Bermuda hay bales or round rolls
Donations can be dropped off at Henry County Animal Care and Control’s office located at 527 Hampton Road in McDonough. An online fundraiser by GERL so far has raised almost $4,000.
Donations to the Canine Pet Rescue to help with rehab can be made here. The group is also posting updates on the horses’ healing progress.
