Firefighters responded to the home being on fire shortly after 4:15 a.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, they found heavy fire throughout the first floor of a one-story home with a basement. The fire extended the length of the structure, including the carport area, attic, kitchen and sleeping areas of the home.
Channel 2’s Bryan Mims talked to the daughter of one of the victims who told him that her father was 49-years-old and lived in this house for more than 20 years. She also stated that he lived alone and is unaware of who the other victim is. Mims also talked to neighbors, who said they heard a couple of booms then saw flames and called 9-1-1.
According to AFR, while they were conducting searches and working to put out the fire, conditions worsened after heavy fire was identified in both the basement and attic. Firefighters were ordered to evacuate the structure and transition to defensive operations before later resuming interior operations as conditions improved.
The cause remains under investigation.
