2 dead, 1 jailed after Gwinnett shooting

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Two men are dead and another is in jail after an apartment shooting at a complex on South Norcross Tucker Road.

Neighbors described a wild scene late Friday in the parking lot of the Highland Walk Apartments in unincorporated Gwinnett County.

"I saw one body upside down out of the door," an unidentified neighbor recalled of the incident.

Gwinnett County police it said was the setting for a Friday night double murder.

"I heard four, five, or six gunshots last night. Then, I heard people screaming," the neighbor said.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a man and a woman. Both were arrested but only the man was charged with murder.

That man is identified as 21-year-old Vandara Nao of Stone Mountain. Nao is also charged with aggravated assault.

A 13-year-old neighbor, whose guardians want to remain anonymous, said it was just before midnight when he heard a commotion.

"It was like 'Oh my God. I've got to hide.' So I stayed in my room ducking," he told Channel 2's Carl Willis.

Police said both men who were shot died in the apartment parking lot.

The details leading up to the shooting are still under investigation, but police said the motive appears to be drug-related. Police have not released the identities of the injured people.
