10-year-old shot during vigil in College Park

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — Police are searching an apartment complex for evidence after someone shot a child, they said.

The shooting investigation is happening outside the Sierra Townhomes on Godby Road in College Park.

A man who lives in the complex told Channel 2's Matt Johnson the child was shot during a vigil.

The man told Johnson the boy looked to be OK when he was taken from the scene to be treated.

Police said he was shot in the arm inside his parents' apartment during a vigil for someone who had died.

The witness told Johnson he thinks he heard 30 gunshots tonight and said the violence at his complex is getting out of control.

Fulton County police arrived at the 2700 block of Godby Road just before 8:30 p.m.

The complex does have security roaming the premises.

Police said some people got into an altercation during the vigil and gunshots rang out.

Bullets went through the wall of at least one apartment and the 10-year-old was hit.

No one is in custody, but several people were taken in for questioning.

Police are still hoping more witnesses come forward.
