ATLANTA — A house-sitting grandmother from Atlanta has found a $1 million win on the south side of town. Onzie Minor, 59, won her top prize playing the Georgia Lottery instant game Big Payout, according to the Georgia Lottery Corporation.
Minor said she was on the way to her daughter's home to house-sit for the weekend when she realized that she had won $1 million.
"I was in the car, and I couldn't believe it," the grandmother of seven said.
Minor said she plans to use her prize money to travel.
"I just feel great," she said. "I've got big plans."
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $11.9 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.25 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
